In the season of zero ratings and failed crash tests, here’s some good news for Volkswagen Vento 1.2-litre TSI owners. The ASEAN NCAP has now revised its safety rating for the car from four to five stars thanks to the addition of Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) in the vehicle. However, the other engine variants still have a four-star safety rating. This news comes soon after the one where five popular Indian cars received zero stars in the Global NCAP crash test. These were the Kwid, the Eon, the Eeco, the Celerio and the Scorpio.
Volkswagen recently updated the Vento and it now comes with a touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink, auto dimming IRVMs, phone book/SMS viewer and rain-sensing wipers. MirrorLink allows you to pair your Android device with the car’s infotainment system and replicates it on the touchscreen. These feature updates were common to both the Polo and the Vento. Also, at the 2016 Auto Expo, a Vento with DRLs was showcased, hinting at a launch in the near future.
The Vento is available on sale with three engine options. The 1.2 TSI and 1.6-litre MPI petrol, and the 1.5-litre TDI diesel variant. As mentioned above, the updated rating is only given to the 1.2-litre TSI variant. The performance figures of the engines are as follows:
We hope this updated rating inspires other carmakers to add safety measures in their cars as well, and provide better safety to the occupants.
