London: It may be surprising but most women crave the classic look of Hollywood actress-turned-princess Grace Kelly rather than one of today’s catwalk stars, according to a survey.
They feel more confident with their appearance in an elegant, demure outfit and perfectly- applied make-up, the Daily Express reported.
A pencil skirt, fitted T-shirt, matching underwear and three-inch heels is the perfect outfit.
When it comes to their ideal look, they prefer blonde, curly hair, smoky eye make-up, a post-holiday tan and a French manicure.
The survey by Superdrug revealed that the signature style of Princess Grace of Monaco, who died in 1982, is still just as popular today.
Modern advocates of the leading lady look that today’s women aspire to include Jennifer Aniston, Heidi Klum, Holly Willoughby, Katherine Heigl and Kimberley Walsh.
“Modern women know what they like when it comes to make-up and fashion. It’s fascinating that while they devour fashion and beauty magazines, this research proves that classic always wins out,” the Daily Express quoted Sara Wolverson, of Superdrug, as saying.
“We may want to look at the latest fashion icons but we don’t always want to look like them. What seems to be important is looking more classic and elegant than casual or urban, which means women are opting for clothes which complement their figure and make-up that suits their complexion and colouring.
“There’s a time and place for wild and wacky make-up and hair but for the everyday perfect look the classic option is a winner,” she stated.
The survey showed that 43 per cent of women preferred natural make-up – which took them an average time of 11 minutes to apply – with 84 per cent agreeing that less is more.
Yet six in 10 felt under-dressed and dowdy without make-up.
The glowing fake tans of the stars of TV’s `The Only Way Is Essex` were deemed a no-no and bright shades for nails were also out.
In addition to tight pencil skirts that showed off their legs, women said they liked to wear skinny jeans or tailored trousers.
While a snug-fitting T-shirt was the most popular choice, 11 per cent felt best in a cleavage-enhancing top.
Sixteen per cent said they would always opt to wear a vest.
But, contrary to their desire, men said they preferred brunettes instead of blondes.
