Sensex ends flat, Nifty registers slight gains

Sensex closes flat, up 1.24 points at 31,283.72; Nifty gains 19.65 points to 9,788.60.

The wider 51-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) reclaimed the psychologically important 9,800-mark to trade at 9,835.45 points -- up 66.50 points or 0.68 per cent (at 1.10 p.m.).

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index of the BSE, which opened at 31,367.25 points, traded at 31,466.60 points -- up 184.12 points, or 0.59 per cent, from its previous close at 31,282.48 points.

The Sensex has so far touched a high of 31,488.87 points and a low of 31,358.98 points during intra-day trade.

Spot gold declined 0.2 percent to $1,284.28 per ounce at 0434 GMT, on track to register a 2.8 percent decline in September, the largest monthly fall so far in 2017 and the biggest monthly drop since November.

The 30-share index, which had rallied 122.67 points in the previous sessions, was higher by 170.29 points, or 0.54 per cent, at 31,452.77. All sectoral indices including realty, metal and oil and gas made gains, rising up to 2.71 per cent.

The NSE Nifty advanced by 58.40 points, or 0.59 per cent, to 9,827.35.

The rupee advanced 20 paise to 65.30 against the dollar in early session today, broadly in line with domestic stocks taking on some muscle with a bright start.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) was trading 98.13 points or 0.13 per cent higher during the early session.

The wider 51-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 31.35 points or 0.32 per cent higher at 9,800.30 points.

The BSE Sensex, which opened at 31,367.25 points, was trading at 31,380.61 points (at 9.16 a.m.) in the early session, higher 98.13 points or 0.13 per cent from the previous day`s close at 31,282.48 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 31,396.65 points and a low of 31,360.98 points in the trade so far.

Nifty50 reclaims 9,850; Sensex up nearly 50 pts; rupee trades at 65.34 against US dollar.
