Rare Bollywood memorabilia up for auction at Osian`s-Cinefan

The famous scarf that Shammi Kapoor wore in `Junglee` is to be auctioned-off at Osian`s-Cinefan this month.

New Delhi: The famous scarf that Shammi Kapoor wore in `Junglee` and the last unreleased song by Kishore Kumar are some of the vintage items going under the hammer at the upcoming Osian`s-Cinefan auction this month. First major Indian film memorabilia auction in India since Osian`s `The Historical Mela ? ABC: Art, Book and Cinema`, the event offers Indian cinephiles a rare chance to own vintage items resourced from many private collections around the country.
Special highlights of the auction include a focus on the legendary star, the late Shammi Kapoor. His famous scarf from 1961 film `Junglee`, the sweater from 1971 movie `Andaz`, the Shehnai from his last film appearance in `Rockstar` (2011) and one of his favorite personal Mont Blanc fountain pens are up for sale. The last unreleased song by Kishore Kumar completed just three days before his demise will provide a unique opportunity for the film fraternity and the fans of Kishore da to purchase the rights for this rare song. The other highlights include a rare album of 45 signed black and white photographic stills by the late Dev Anand, costumes worn by Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan from `Shatranj ke Khilari`, Satyajit Ray designed film posters of the 1960s, the turquoise ring set in silver worn by Farooque Sheikh in Muzaffar Ali`s `Umrao Jaan` and a cricket bat signed by Aamir Khan and the team from `Lagaan`. The auction also offers rare photographic stills mounted on lobby cards and Show-Cards from classics like `Aan`, `Mother India`, `Dil Diya Dard Liya`, `Leader`, `Humraaz`, `Zanjeer`, `Aan Milo Sajna` and other films, along with original calendar art featuring stars such as Jayalalitha, Waheeda Rehman, Hema Malani, Mumtaz, Sridevi, among others. "It is sad that in a country which is so passionate about cinema and where film stars are larger than life, the market for vintage Indian Cinema publicity material and memorabilia is at such infancy compared to say the market for Hollywood memorabilia... "I hope this auction inspires our collectors and the film fraternity to value its cinematic heritage more effectively," said Neville Tuli, the founder chairman of Osian`s. The new annual auction dedicated to film memorabilia, will take place on July 31 as part the 12th Osian`s-Cinefan Film Festival which takes place from 27 July to 5 August 2012. PTI
