New Delhi: India is expected to get its second bullet train service on Delhi and Varanasi route.
The Modi government has proposed bullet train connectivity between the capital city New Delhi to the PM Modi's Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi via Aligarh, Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow and Sultanpur.
The train is expected to cover the journey in just two hours and 40 minutes. Currently, the trains running on this route take around 10 hours to 14 hours to complete the journey.
The travel time between Delhi and Lucknow (506 km) is likely to be 1 hour 45 minutes.
As per a Times of India report, the project of bullet train in Uttar Pradesh is expected to be fast-tracked in the wake of UP assembly polls next year.
The report added that a Spanish firm is studying the feasibility of the proposed corridor and it has already submitted the interim report but the final report will most likely come in by the end of the year.
The preliminary cost, without rolling stock, being worked out is estimated to be about Rs 43,000 crore for the Delhi-Varanasi stretch.
The bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is expecyed to begin operation in 2023.
