Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu Monday asked all PSUs under the ministry to undertake more rail projects while ensuring best practices in tendering process and transparency in their functioning.

New Delhi: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu Monday asked all PSUs under the ministry to undertake more rail projects while ensuring best practices in tendering process and transparency in their functioning.
In a review meeting with the heads of the Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the administrative control of railways, Prabhu also sought strong presence of all railway PSUs on the social networking sites for dissemination of information to the public.
All of them were asked to open their Facebook account and Twitter handle and inform the public about the work being done by these units, a senior Railway Ministry official said.
He also directed that all the CPSEs should make all-out efforts to exceed their targets and and hand over healthy dividends to the Railways.
The minister insisted on meeting the capital expenditure target without fail.
"Minister directed that the CPSEs should ensure transparency in their working and to follow the best practices in their tenders/contracts and other activities," the official said.
He said funds should not be a constraint for the railway projects and the CPSEs to be ready to undertake more railway projects which may be given to them shortly.
The Railway PSUs participated in the review meeting included Container Corporation of India, IRCON International Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Indian Railways Finance Corporation, Konkan Railway Corporation, Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation, Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd, RailTel Corporation of India, RITES Ltd, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India, Burn Standard Company, Braithwaite & Company Limited, Bharat Wagons Engineering and Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation.
