Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury, the BCCI revealed on Tuesday, February 11. Bumrah hasn't recovered from the discomfort in his back, an injury he picked up during the Sydney Test against Australia in January.

This is the second ICC tournament Bumrah will miss due to injury, having previously sat out of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

The senior men's team selection committee has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah's replacement for the mega event starting February 19 in Pakistan. Rana has impressed in the ongoing ODI series against England, scalping four wickets in his first two outings.

According to ESPNcricinfo report, Bumrah's latest scans, that he underwent in Bengaluru over the weekend, did not reveal anything untoward. However,  it is learned that the pacer is not entirely ready to return to bowling. There is no confirmation on the timeline of his return.

Bumrah is likely to resume running in a couple of weeks and then bowl gradually after that. His progress will be monitored by the BCCI's medical team in Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, the selectors have also included Varun Chakaravarthy in the team. The mystery spinner will replace Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was initially named in the provisional squad. Jaiswal has been named as a non-travelling substitute, alongside Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube.

India will open their ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against Bangladesh on February 20, before taking on rivals Pakistan in a highly-anticipated clash on February 23. India will play their final Group A match against New Zealand on March 2.

India’s squad for ICC Champions Trophy, 2025: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill (Vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakaravarthy.

Non Travelling substitutes: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube. The three players will travel to Dubai as and when required.
