Sri Lanka vs Australia: 2nd T20I — As it happened...

Watch and follow live score of the second Twenty20 International match of Australia's tour of Sri Lanka, being played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Australian bowlers set up a four-wicket victory over Sri Lanka to spoil veteran batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan`s farewell and sweep the two-match Twenty20 series in Colombo.

The visitors, who won the first match after scoring a world record 263, rode on opener Glenn Maxwell`s 29-ball 66 to chase down their 129-run target with 13 balls to spare.

Earlier, James Faulkner and Adam Zampa claimed three wickets each to restrict the hosts to 128 for nine despite Dhananjaya de Silva`s fighting half-century.

Sachith Pathirana on for his third over, and a single off the first ball to Travis Head. It was followed by a three, then two dot balls.

Head hit the fifth ball, over deep mid-wicket, to win the match by four wickets. Australia won the series 2-0.

And not to forget, Tillakaratne Dilshan's 17-year long career stopped at 497th match.

Sachithra Senanayake continued with his second over, and was taken to the cleaners by Glenn Maxwell. A four off the first ball then a six, both straight.

First one, failed to make optimum contact, but still managed to beat the fielder at mid-on. And the six, it went over the long-on.

Then Maxwell produced another reverse shot, but only a couple. It was followed by a regular sweep shot, and traveled. Six over deep square leg.

David Warner knelt, and played through the cover even as a Lankan fielder jumped in desperation to stop the ball. A dot ball to end the over.

The drama, as expected with Glenn Maxwell on strike, started in the second over.

Sachithra Senanayake on for Sri Lanka, and the off spinner got into action right away. A stumping call. Review called, but Maxwell's left foot never seemed to have left the ground.

Then the Aussie opener picked the next ball, a flighted delivery, and hit over the bowler's head, for a four.

A dot ball, then a single followed. Then the reverse hit for a for. It was followed by a huge shout for LBW. The ball, however, would have missed the off stump.

He, in fact, managed to trouble David Warner with a out-of-play hit. Warner, after playing straight back to the bowler looked to steal single but at alert Lakmal threw back and the ball hit Warner in the calf.

Mitchell Starc, still wicket-less, for the final over of the innings. A wide to start with Sachithra Senanayake on strike. A dot, then a single, giving strike back to Dhananjaya de Silva.

A dot ball, wide but not wide enough, and with enough disguise to make Dhananjaya de Silva missed the shot.

Then, Sri Lanka lost their top-scorer. A full toss, and de Silva could only find a fielder at extra-cover.

Preview:

Despite a humiliating defeat in the first T20I match, hosts Sri Lanka will try to put up a valiant fight, at least for Tillakaratne Dilshan, and level the series.

Dilshan, who will turn 40 next month, will play his final international match today, and only a win will do for him – the winner that he was.

But it will be a huge ask for the home side to contained a confident and of course boisterous Australian side, especially after that rock star show from Glenn Maxwell. If the Aussie think-tank sticks to opening with Maxwell, then it's safe to assume that fireworks will continue.

The trouble for Lanka doesn't end there. This Aussie side is probably one of the hottest outfits out there, on par with the world champions West Indies.

First T20I recap:

It was all Glenn Maxwell in the first Twenty20 International between Sri Lanka and Australia at Pellekelle. The Aussie all-rounder destroyed the Lankan attack with his inventive innings which went onto become the second highest individual score in a T20I match.

The 65-ball knock produced 145 runs, which included 14 fours and nine fours, and the batsman returned undefeated. Promoted to open, Maxwell once again showed why he is considered as one of the most destructive batsmen around.

His stay in the centre revolved around clean hitting, inventive shot making – prominent of which was his reverse shots of all veritable quality.

The Aussie innings got further impetus from the talented Travis Head, whose strike was a staggering 250 percent. He scored 45 off 18 balls, and was unlucky not have equaled the fastest fifty in T20Is.

Australia, which have never beaten Sri Lanka in this format, managed to lord over the home side and scored a record highest total of 263 runs. Ironically, the previous record belonged to the Lankans.

Yes, the match was also supposed to be retiring Tillakaratne Dilshan's final outing at Kandy. But, the Lankan legend could last only three balls, yet he managed to play a sumptuous cover drive, reminiscent of his younger days.

Chasing that record total, Lankans were shot out for 178, with Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland taking three wickets each.
