New Delhi: In a bizarre finish to the regulation twenty overs in a women's Big Bash League T20 match on Wednesday, the Sydney Sixes secured a dramatic tie off the last ball of the match, only to lose the match later to Melbourne Renegades, who made up for their early celebrations by winning in the Super Over.

Needing three runs off the final ball, Sixers' batter Sarah Aley played Amy Satterthwaite to short fine-leg and scampered for a single. The fielder, Kris Britt, then threw the ball to wicketkeeper Emma Inglis who broke into a celebration with her team-mates without dislodging the bails. Spotting that, an alert Sarah called her partner for the second run and dived into the crease before Inglis could break the stumps.

The surprised Renegades turned to the fine-leg umpire asking if the ball was dead following the throw, but the umpire shook his head to declare a tie with the scores level at 120 apiece.

In the Super Over, the Sixers scored 8/2, which was easily overhauled by the Renegades for a face-saving victory.
