WATCH: Brave Vernon Philander completes fifer after nasty collision with Steve Smith

New Delhi: Early Saturday morning, Australia found themselves facing their nemesis in South African pace duo of Vernon Philander and Kyle Abbott at Hobart.

Put into bat, Australia were 16/4 at 12.2 overs, with Philander on a zone. The Proteas pacer, having already taken three wickets in his spell of six overs with five maidens, Aussie skipper Steve Smith needed something much more batting, probably a tactical brilliance.

And in the second ball of the 13th over, he ran into Philander, leaving the bowler injured. Philander clutched his shoulder and left the field.

It somehow stalled the fall of wickets, but the brave Philander returned after a while to complete his fifer. His figures of 10.1-5-21-5 reminded everyone of how he toyed with the Aussies five years ago at Cape Town.

Australia were all-out for an embarrassingly low score of 85 with skipper Smith top scoring and unbeaten on 48 at Blundstone Arena. South Africa had built an 86-run lead, reaching 5-171, with four days' play left in the second Test.

The visitors have won the first Test by 177 runs at WACA.
