New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Sambit Patra on Thursday took a dig at Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after the AAP faced a humiliating defeat in the Rajouri Garden Assembly by-poll in Delhi.
Bharatiya Janata Party's Manjinder Singh Sirsa won the Delhi Assembly by-election from the Rajouri Garden constituency today. He defeated his nearest rival Meenakshi Chandela of the Congress by a margin of nearly 14,000 votes, pushing the ruling Aam Aadmi Party's candidate to a distant third, according to the Election Commission.
Sirsa polled 40,602 votes, Chandela 25,950 and the AAP's Harjeet Singh 10,243 out of a total 78,091 votes cast during poll on Sunday, the Election Commission said after the final round of counting.
Since AAP candidate won less than one-sixth of the total votes polled, he lost his deposit.
Taking a dig at the AAP, Patra tweeted:
When Your Ambitions are such that You want to be CM by Night & PM by the Morning..then sometimes in the middle You "loose You Deposit"!! — Sambit Patra (@sambitswaraj) April 13, 2017
AAP & Mr Kejriwal have not just lost their DEPOSIT
They have lost their CREDIBILITY — Sambit Patra (@sambitswaraj) April 13, 2017
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that Delhi Assembly's Rajouri Garden constituency voters were angry over AAP lawmaker Jarnail Singh's resignation to contest the Punjab Assembly Elections, which led to the party's poor show in the April 9 by-poll.
