Los Angeles: Singer Demi Lovato, UMG Recording and her producers Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub have been sued for copyright infringement over her track “Stars”.

The 24-year-old and her team have been hit with a lawsuit by alt-pop duo Sleigh Bells, who claim that her track “Stars” contains similarities that transcend the realm of coincidence with their song “Infinity Guitars & Riot Rhythm”, reports etonline.com.

"A comparison of the two songs reveals that, at the very least, the combination of the hand claps and bass drum, structured as three-quarter beats and a rest, with the bass drum providing a counter-rhythm to the hand claps, is at least substantially similar in both works,” the lawsuit read.

The producers responded in a statement, saying: "We did not use any samples in Demi Lovato's song 'Stars'. Demi was also not involved with the production. She only wrote top line."

The band previously addressed their concerns in a tweet, saying: “Demi Lovato flattered you guys sampled 'Infinity Guitars & Riot Rhythm' for 'Stars' but we were not contacted. Gotta clear those."
