Tuesday (May 31) night brought a piece of shocking news for India's music fraternity. Singer and composer Krishnakumar Kunnath, known by his stage name KK, passed away at the age of 53, shortly after finishing a live concert in Kolkata. 'Pyaar Ke Pal', 'Tu Aashiqui Hai' (Jhankar Beats), 'Tadap Tadap' (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam) are some of KK's iconic songs that have left an indelible mark on his fans. Over the span of his almost 3-decade-long career KK sang more than 500 songs in Hindi and more than 200 songs in Telugu, Bengali, Kannada and Malayalam languages. He had also received various honours including two Screen Awards for Best Playback Singer- Male (Non-Film Music) and many more.

KK's MORTAL REMAINS REACH MUMBAI
Late singer KK's mortal remains reached Mumbai today late evening. His last rites will be held on Thursday, reportedly.
The preliminary findings of the post-mortem conducted on renowned Bollywood singer Krishnakumar Kunnath aka KK, indicated that he died due to a cardiac arrest, a senior police officer said told PTI on Wednesday.

Late singer KK's mortal remains reach Mumbai today
He died in Kolkata on Tuesday night, May 31, 2022, and reportedly his funeral will take place tomorrow.
In an interview with the Times of India, KK's music teacher from Delhi's Kirori Mal College, Sumitra Mohanty said, "It is very sad for a teacher to lose a student. He was such a remarkable and talented student. He was a Western music singer, but I told him to listen to Indian music and be a part of it, which he did. Later on in life, he told me, ‘Thank you for inducting me to this music, because this is now my bread and butter'." It is heartbreaking to say goodbye to him, it is such a sad day for us, personally."
Reports suggest late singer KK's mortal remains will reach Mumbai by 7.30 pm today and his funeral will take place in Mumbai on Thursday, June 2.

Actor Akshay Kumar on Wednesday called singer KK's sudden demise a big loss. Akshay Kumar tweeted, "Extremely sad and shocked to know of the sad demise of KK. What a loss! Om Shanti."
Playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya said, "Many singers came, but a playback singer whose voice of silk was meant for the screen was KK... this is a big loss for music, now the playback singing system has finished with him... I respect, miss and love KK. I am his biggest fan."
"Gun salute will not be given at the airport, it will be given in Rabindra Sadan as the postmortem is still going on. We have consulted with the family, they have a 5.15 pm flight so we will pay respect there," West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on the demise of KK after a concert.

Reportedly, after watching the last show of KK online from Odisha, Bagchi, a national award-winning singer-songwriter, came live on Facebook and made controversial comments on the talent of KK."The singers of Kolkata are much better singers than KK. But the people of Bengal do not care for them. They just remain enthralled with Mumbai. But how long will this continue? It is high time to stand by Bengal. Who is this KK? Who is he? People of Kolkata get so thrilled when KK comes to the city to perform. But they do not show the same enthusiasm for us," Bagchi said in the live video.

Meanwhile, the sporting fraternity expressed their sadness at KK's untimely demise with former Indian cricketers Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman expressing their condolences. IPL franchises Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals and sports commentator Harsha Bhogle expressed their sadness on social media.
A staff of Nazrul Mancha Auditorium in Kolkata, who was present during the live concert, told ANI that the venue was overcrowded and to disperse the crowd the bouncers sprayed a foam. "There was very much a huge crowd. People were jumping over the barricade and gate. However, nothing happened inside the auditorium. He (KK) was feeling unwell. He took a break and performed again," he said.
A probe into the matter is underway. Investigators are waiting for the preliminary report of the postmortem. Mourning the demise of KK, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a Twitter post, said, "The sudden and untimely demise of the Bollywood playback singer KK shocks and saddens us. My colleagues have been working since last night to ensure that all requisite support is given for necessary formalities, his rites and to his family now. My deep condolences."

Farah Khan remembers KK.
"We have started an investigation into singer KK's death and a case of unnatural death has been registered with the New Market Police Station. We are talking to the hotel authorities and scrutinising CCTV footage to understand what had happened before he was taken to the hospital," a police officer said. (PTI)
A case has been lodged with New Market Police Station in Kolkata under whose jurisdiction falls the five-star hotel where KK had put up and felt unwell before being taken to a hospital, he told PTI.

"KK was brought to the hospital around 10 pm. It's unfortunate that we could not treat him," a senior official of the private hospital where KK was taken in Kolkata said. Read the story here.
Breaking: Kolkata Police’s New Market Police Station registers unnatural death (U/D) case in the sudden demise of singer KK. According to our sources, police are also investigating factors like whether the auditorium had more people than its actual capacity, and whether the ACs were working or not. They are checking if any prevailing circumstance led to KK falling sick while performing.
Nation mourned the death of KK, with PM Modi joining in to pay his tributes. "Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as (they) struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti," Modi tweeted.
KK performed at a concert organised by Gurudas College at Nazrul Mancha in south Kolkata for almost an hour in the evening. He was "feeling heavy" after reaching his hotel, and soon collapsed, officials said.
