Kolkata: Actor Akshay Kumar says he detests nation-bashing in films.

"It's (Airlift) not about a nation, it's about saving people. I hate any kind of nation-bashing in films. I don't like it," the actor told the media here on Thursday while promoting his forthcoming film "Airlift". 

Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, "Airlift" also stars "The Lunchbox" fame actress Nimrat Kaur.

Akshay plays a character who had a crucial role in the evacuation of Kuwait-based Indians during the Iraq-Kuwait war in 1990.

The story of the film is from the point of view of Akshay's character who helped Indians get airlifted from Kuwait. As the poster of the film suggests - 1,70,00 refugees, 488 flights, 59 days and one man.

Air India entered into Guinness Book of World Records for the civil airline that had evacuated the most people till date.

Akshay said the pilots of Air India were the biggest heroes.

"Hats off to them," he added.
