New Delhi: Penguins are undoubtedly hailed as the cutest birds, hands down. Their walk, up to their built instantly cheers you up.
But, have you ever heard of penguins having marriage troubles? No? Well, then you're just about to witness the 'impossible'.
A video tweeted by National Geographic Channel appears to carry evidence of the fact that just like humans, penguins too can have a troubled marriage.
The video shows a male penguin heading toward his burrow at a breeding site, only to find his 'wife' with another male penguin, whom NatGeo has termed 'homewrecker'.
Like any other angry, humiliated husband, he invites his competitor out for a brawl between the two, which includes a lot of swings that they take at each other with their wings.
Here, we would like to tell you that penguin wings aren't like other birds. While other birds' wings have hollow bones to help with their flight, penguins don't fly and hence their wings, or flippers as they are called, contain solid bone. In short, they could really hurt.
The narrator in the video also goes on to say that, 'They (penguins) use them like baseball bats to clobber each other, delivering up to eight blows per second.'
Well, the now bloody fight continues for a good 100-150 'slaps' and suddenly stops, when they decide to call upon the female penguin to take a call and 'choose her man'.
Unfortunately, it is the homewrecker she chooses, letting her husband down a second time. But, the fight doesn't end here, if that's what you were thinking. His ego hurt, the husband follows the 'new couple' to their burrow and launches another attack, this time using his beak.
As the narrator explains, 'Penguins usually use their beaks to gauge their burrows, now they are gauging out eyes.'
Both the penguins are by now, covered in blood and the husband penguin makes one last plea for his wife, but sadly, it looks like she's made her decision.
Defeated, the husband penguin is seen stumbling and walking away.
After being tweeted yesterday, November 5, this video has since gone viral and people across social media platforms are going crazy over the hilarity of it, coming out with all sorts of memes, with some totally relating to and sympathizing with the husband penguin. The tweet now has 208,616 retweets.
