Mumbai: The 89th Academy Awards ended on an embarrassing note after the name of the recipient of the Best Picture award was incorrectly announced. ‘La La Land’ was initially announced as the winner of the award but ‘Moonlight’ was the real recipient. US President Donald Trump, who was mocked by host Jimmy Kimmel at the gala event, has reportedly reacted to the announcement gaffe.
According to a report in CNN, Donald Trump during an interview with Breitbart News said, “They were focused so hard on politics that they didn't get the act together at the end. It was a little sad. It took away from the glamour of the Oscars.”
This is what had actually happened - Presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were accidentally handed the envelope mentioning the winner for best actress in a leading role (Emma Stone for ‘La La Land’).
As expected, the atmosphere in Dolby Theatres was politically charged. Besides, Kimmel, a few other people too indirectly took a jibe at the US President and his policies towards immigrants.
