Haryana: Nuh DSP, who went to stop illegal mining, killed after being run over by dumper

New Delhi: A deputy superintendent of police in Haryana's Nuh district was killed after a truck he had signalled to stop drove into him, officials said on Tuesday (July 19, 2022). Tauru DSP Surender Singh, while investigating illegal stone mining, had reportedly signalled the dumper-truck to halt to check documents. The driver, however, sped on and ran over him. Singh was then rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.

A search operation is currently underway to apprehend the accused.

Singh, along with his team, had gone to conduct raids to stop illegal mining in the Aravalli hills in the Pachgaon area near Tauru when he spotted the truck around 11.50 am.

Since 2015, about 50 complaints of illegal mining are registered every year in the Nuh district, news agency PTI reported.

Haryana Police extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of DSP Taoru Surender Singh and said that no effort will be spared in bringing the offenders to face justice.

"DSP Taoru Sh Surender Singh laid down his life today in the course of duty. Haryana Police extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of the brave officer. No effort shall be spared in bringing the offenders to face justice," it tweeted.

Tauru DSP Surender Singh, killed while trying to stop illegal mining, was to retire in a few months

Tauru DSP Surender Singh, who was recruited as an assistant sub-inspector in Haryana Police in 1994, was to retire in a few months. He hailed from Sarangpur village in Hisar district and lived with his family in Kurukshetra, news agency PTI reported.
