New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Police pastes another notice outside the residence of Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra in Lakhimpur Kheri on Friday (October 8, 2021), asking his son Ashish Mishra to appear before it on 9th October, 11 am, in connection with the recent violence.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to attend several programs including the inauguration of an oxygen plant and various development schemes, in Gandhinagar on Friday.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will observe its 89th foundation day today. On the occasion of the IAF Day celebrations will take place at Hindon Air Force Station in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. 

Additionally, a Delhi court is scheduled to pronounce its order today in a case related to the tampering with the evidence in the 1997 Uphaar fire tragedy matter involving real estate barons Sushil and Gopal Ansal among others.

In other developments, the Maharashtra government will launch a special vaccination initiative ‘Mission Kavach Kundal’ to intensify the COVID-19 vaccine drive in the state from today.

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Gujarat government on Friday extended the night curfew in eight cities of the state till November 10.These cities include Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar.The curfew will be enforced from 12 pm to 6 am.Earlier on September 14, the state government extended the night curfew in the major cities of Gujarat till September 25.

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Delhi government to come out with a plan to help children of the Economically Backward Class (EWS) category and disadvantaged groups during the COVID-19 pandemic for their online classes. The Court said that the Centre and Delhi should work together to find out a solution to ensure that education is not denied due to lack of resources.

Based on the complaints registered on the `Green Delhi` app, as many as 14 pollution hotspots have been identified in the capital city, with the South Delhi region having the highest number of pollution originating points.

Of these 14 hotspots, 10 are polluted due to illegal dumping of garbage on roadside and vacant land, two of illegal dumping of construction and demolition waste (C&D) waste on the roadside, public land and Yamuna flood plain and one each of dust pollution and the burning of garbage and plastic waste, according to data provided by the Delhi government launched mobile application.

RBI had last revised its policy repo rate or the short-term lending rate on May 22, 2020, in an off-policy cycle to perk up demand by cutting interest rate to a historic low. MPC decided to keep benchmark repurchase (repo) rate at 4 per cent, Das said while announcing the bi-monthly monetary policy review.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday decided to keep benchmark interest rate unchanged at 4 per cent but maintained an accommodative stance even as the economy is showing signs of recovery after the second COVID wave.

This is the eighth time in a row that the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) headed by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has maintained status quo.

A fire broke out at a godown located in the Harkesh Nagar of the national capital on Friday, Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials said. The department said a call was received about the fire around 4 am, and 18 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

"A fire call was received about fire in godown around 3:45 am today. The fire was in cotton, thread and cloths waste inside the basement, ground and first floor. Total 18 fire tenders rushed to the site," the officials said.

India reported 21,257 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday. With this, the active cases in the country stand at 2,40,221, which is the lowest in 205 days.

As per the ministry, the recovery rate is currently at 97.96 per cent, the highest since March 2020. Meanwhile, 93.17 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under nationwide vaccination drive.
