India coronavirus, COVID-19 updates, May 9: 129 fresh cases in Rajasthan take total to 3,708, over 1,440 still active

In total, India's coronavirus count has mounted to 59,662 which includes 17,846 recovered coronavirus patients, and 39,834 active cases. The recovery percentage is now 29.91 percent, as per the health ministry.  Over the past few days, coronavirus cases have seen a major rise by over 3,000 cases being reported every day.

In total, India's coronavirus count has mounted to 59,662 which includes 17,846 recovered coronavirus patients, and 39,834 active cases. The recovery percentage is now 29.91 percent, as per the health ministry.  Over the past few days, coronavirus cases have seen a major rise by over 3,000 cases being reported every day.

Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus positive cases in Maharashtra -- the worst-affected state in the country -- reached 19,063, with 1,089 more people reporting positive on Friday. Thirty-seven people have died in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll in the state to 731, said the Maharashtra Health.

At least 216 districts in India have not reported any COVID-19 cases till date. In the last 24 hours, Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agrawal said, 3,390 new Covid-19 positive cases have been reported.

India has launched its biggest repatriation mission - the 'Vande Bharat Mission' to bring back Indians stranded abroad due to the coronavirus lockdown. In the first two flights of the Vande Bharat Mission, 363 Indians, who were stranded in UAE, were brought back on Air India flights that landed in Kerala.

Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on COVID-19 situation: Doubling rate of cases for the last three days has been about 11 days. For the past seven days the doubling rate has been 9.9. and, for the last 14 days it is 10.7 today. We do not anticipate the worst kind of situation in India like other developed countries, but still we have prepared the whole country for the worst situation. As we talk of relaxations to lockdown, we have to deal with the challenge of learning to live with the virus, for this we need to make the required prevention measures a part of our life, through a behaviour change process. Across the country, there are 1, 991 dedicated COVID-19 health centres which have 1,35,643 beds. They include isolation as well as ICU beds. We have distributed 69 lakhs N-95 masks to various state governments.
