The Maha Kumbh 2025 commenced in Prayagraj with an atmosphere reverberating with bhajans and devotional slogans on Paush Poornima. January 14 marked a significant milestone as the Akharas of Sanatan Dharma performed the grand festival's first 'Amrit Snan' (royal bath). On the second day, more than 3.5 crore devotees took a holy dip in the sacred Sangam, creating a spiritual spectacle unmatched in scale and devotion.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday instructed officials to implement comprehensive arrangements for managing the influx of 8-10 crore devotees expected to gather at the Sangam for the sacred Mauni Amavasya bathing ritual during the Maha Kumbh on January 29.

Held once in 144 years, this Maha Kumbh carries extraordinary significance. Spiritual leaders highlight that the unique celestial alignments and cosmic patterns shaping this event occur only once in 144 years, amplifying its auspiciousness and historical importance. Known as one of the world’s largest religious congregations, the Kumbh Mela 2025 continues to attract millions of pilgrims with its vibrant rituals, cultural programs, and deep spiritual experiences, offering moments of divine connection and timeless traditions.

Cutting-edge technology will light up the night sky of Sangam during the upcoming Maha Kumbh, as a fleet of 2,000 drones will take off in the holy city of Prayagraj to depict the mythical 'Samudra Manthan' and the emergence of 'Amrit Kalash'. The Union Culture Ministry on Tuesday said that Maha Kumbh 2025 is set to be a "divine and digitally advanced event", reflecting the "seamless integration" of spirituality and technology.

"These stalls will show videos of major events such as 'peshwai' (grand procession of 'akhadas'), auspicious bathing days ('snaan'), 'Ganga aarti', and multiple special footage from the grand festival of faith and harmony," the ministry said in a statement. A major attraction will be a drone show in the night skies of the holy city.

"A fleet of 2,000 drones will narrate the legendary tales of 'Prayag Mahatmyam' and 'Samudra Manthan', creating a magical evening spectacle over the Sangam Nose," it said. The drone show will also depict the emergence of 'Amrit Kalash' (nectar pot), creating a "magical visual narrative in the evening sky", the statement said.

He added, "More than 80 Mela Special Trains will operate tomorrow, bringing the total number of trains in service to around 300. These will facilitate the movement of passengers to their destinations. Since Makar Sankranti is the day after tomorrow, we have also started inward special train services."
The railway official noted that staff from across the country had been deployed in Prayagraj to support the Kumbh operations, with assistance from Indian Railways' regional departments.

"Around 4,000 personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 10,000 from the Government Railway Police (GRP), and officials from various other departments have been stationed in Prayagraj," Tripathi said.

Rajasthan chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has directed authorities to set up the Rajasthan Mandap in Prayagraj, offering free accommodation, food, and medical facilities for devotees traveling from Rajasthan to the Maha Kumbh Mela.
"Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said that Kumbh has special significance in Indian culture. Kumbh is said to provide all the siddhis. Maha Kumbh Mela, being organized after a gap of 12 years, will continue till 26 February in Prayagraj," as per an official release.
"Extensive arrangements have been ensured at the state government level so that the devotees of Rajasthan participating in this fair, including the royal bath of Moni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Magh Purnima and Mahashivratri, can get the benefits of virtue without any hassle. He appealed to the devotees to take advantage of these arrangements and enjoy the divine experience by taking a holy bath, darshan and worship at the Triveni Sangam of Mahakumbh," chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.

Prayagraj: To ensure smooth crowd management and safety during Maha Kumbh 2025, over 1,000 police personnel, including 71 inspectors, 234 sub-inspectors, and 645 constables, have been deployed across 102 checkpoints on seven key routes connecting Prayagraj to neighboring districts.

The security force is further reinforced by 113 Home Guards, PRD jawans, and three units of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). Advanced surveillance measures include the use of 5 Vajra vehicles, 10 drones, and 4 anti-sabotage teams conducting round-the-clock monitoring.

To bolster security at the Maha Kumbh campsite, police have installed 2,700 AI-enabled cameras and deployed underwater drones to detect potential threats and ensure comprehensive safety, as reported by ANI.

Prayagraj: Several prominent saints, including 'Environment Baba' and 'Rudraksh Baba' arrived at Prayagraj on Saturday ahead of the Maha Kumbh 2025 starting from Monday, Mahamandaleshwar Avdhoot Baba alias 'Environment Baba' said that Sanatan Dharma teaches that everyone should plant 2 trees, one of which is needed during final rites and one Peepal tree for oxygen.   

"I have performed 82 rituals so far. My devotees from almost 30 countries have resolved to plant more than 1 crore trees in our country. In 2016, during a march from Vaishnodevi to Kanyakumari, we planted trees in almost 27 states. After that, devotees started calling me Environment Baba," he said.

"During Covid people from every religion required oxygen. I have been working on this since 2010. Sanatan Dharma teaches that everyone should plant 2 trees, 1 of which is needed for our final rites and 1 Peepal tree for oxygen," Avdhoot Baba added.

Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 Live: UP's handicraft industry to witness Rs 35 crore trade

The Maha Kumbh at Prayagraj is proving to be a significant platform for artisans of Uttar Pradesh. Officials estimate a turnover of about Rs 35 crore for the handicraft industry during the 45-day fair. After taking a dip in the Sangam, people are also visiting the 'One District, One Product' (ODOP) exhibition set up across 6,000 square metres area.

The exhibition showcases an array of exquisite handicrafts, including carpets of Kushinagar, zari-zardozi work, Firozabad's glass toys and Varanasi's wooden toys, among other things.

Joint Commissioner of Industries in Prayagraj Division, Sharad Tandon, said a remarkable growth in business is expected this time over the last Kumbh held in 2019.

"In 2019, the turnover was Rs 4.30 crore, but this time we anticipate a turnover of up to Rs 35 crore. This remarkable increase will offer new opportunities for employment and empower small entrepreneurs," Tandon said. (ANI)

The Ministry of Tourism said it is setting up the Incredible India Pavilion, a sprawling 5000 sq ft space at Mahakumbh, which will facilitate foreign tourists, scholars, researchers, photographers, journalists, the expat community, Indian diaspora, as per ANI report. The pavilion will also feature the Dekho Apna Desh People's Choice Poll, allowing visitors to vote for their favourite tourism destinations in India.

To cater to the specific needs of foreign tourists, influencers, journalists, and photographers attending Maha Kumbh, the Ministry of Tourism has set up a dedicated toll-free Tourist Infoline (1800111363 or 1363).

Besides English and Hindi the Toll-Free Infoline is now operating in ten (10) International languages and also in Indian languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Assamese and Marathi.

Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 Live: North Central Railway operates record 150 special trains for Maha Kumbh pilgrims

Tripathi further added, "To make people aware of cleanliness, we were continuously doing street plays at the station. We had taken out a cleanliness rally and a bicycle rally as well...We have deployed more than 1,000 sanitation workers at our station and more than 18,000 sanitation workers to clean the coaches."

Tripathi further continued, "We have completely banned single-use plastic on our premises... From 11 January to 14 January, we provided medical treatment to more than 11,000 people on railway premises. Out of this, 2,500 people were in critical condition and had reached the secondary stage, to whom we provided health-related treatment..."
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has now shifted its focus to the preparations for the Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya, scheduled for January 29, according to an official statement.

To strengthen the arrangements, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar conducted a visit to the Mahakumbh area on Thursday. During their visit, they chaired a high-level review meeting at the ICC auditorium.

Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26. The next key bathing dates include January 29 (Mauni Amavasya - Second Shahi Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami - Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).

Northern Central Railway has created a new record by operating 150 special trains for pilgrims travelling to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh Mela.

CPRO, Shashikant Tripathi, announced that in preparation for MahaKumbh2025, special trains began on 1 January, with ring-rail services for Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Chitrakoot starting on 10 January. On 14 January, NCR operated a record 150 special trains, including 101 from Prayagraj, Naini, Chheoki, and Subedarganj Junction, on Thursday.
Speaking to ANI, Tripathi said, "We started our long-distance Mela special trains from 1 January. On 10 January, we started our ring-rail services, which majorly cover Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Chitrakoot. From 13 January, we started short-distance Mela special trains... If we talk about NCR only, then we operated 101 Mela special trains from Prayagraj, Naini, Chheoki, and Subedarganj Junction on 14 January."

"To date, these many special trains have not been operated on a single day. Special trains were operated continuously from 5 major stations of our North and Northeast Railway. In total, 150 special Mela Special trains were operated on 14 January alone," he told ANI.

The Union Culture Ministry on Tuesday said that Maha Kumbh 2025 is set to be a "divine and digitally advanced event", reflecting the "seamless integration" of spirituality and technology.

"These stalls will show videos of major events such as 'peshwai' (grand procession of 'akhadas'), auspicious bathing days ('snaan'), 'Ganga aarti', and multiple special footage from the grand festival of faith and harmony," the ministry said in a statement. A major attraction will be a drone show in the night skies of the holy city.

"A fleet of 2,000 drones will narrate the legendary tales of 'Prayag Mahatmyam' and 'Samudra Manthan', creating a magical evening spectacle over the Sangam Nose," it said. The drone show will also depict the emergence of 'Amrit Kalash' (nectar pot), creating a "magical visual narrative in the evening sky", the statement said.

The railway official noted that staff from across the country had been deployed in Prayagraj to support the Kumbh operations, with assistance from Indian Railways' regional departments.

"Around 4,000 personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 10,000 from the Government Railway Police (GRP), and officials from various other departments have been stationed in Prayagraj," Tripathi said.

Our ring rail services started on January 10, and unreserved short-distance regular trains will begin tomorrow, coinciding with the first day of the Maha Kumbh."

Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 Live: Over 3 million devotees take holy dip at Triveni Sangam until 6 pm on Day 4

 

On the fourth day of the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, over 3 million devotees participated in the holy dip at Triveni Sangam, including 1 million Kalpvasis and 2 million additional pilgrims. More than 70 million people have attended the event so far, with over 35 million on Makar Sankranti, January 14.

The Prayagraj administration has set up an AI-based computerized lost and found center, which has successfully reunited lost individuals with their families, offering accommodation, food, and clothing.

A 21-member international delegation from 10 countries also visited the Kumbh Mela to take a holy dip, reflecting the global interest in the event. The delegation included representatives from countries like Guyana, UAE, Fiji, and Finland.

The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, will run until February 26, with key bathing dates such as January 29, February 3, February 12, and February 26.

Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 Live: IMD issues Orange alert till January 17 for Prayagraj, possibility of rain, fog in Kumbh Mela

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for Prayagraj, where the Kumbh Mela is taking place, for today and tomorrow due to expected rain and fog conditions. IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy noted that fog, even if not very dense, will have a significant impact, and rain is likely to increase starting January 18. A third western disturbance is expected between January 21-22, bringing more rain to the plains.

Additionally, dense fog is predicted in northwest India, including Punjab, Haryana, north UP, and Delhi, with temperatures expected to drop by 2-3°C in the coming days. A Yellow alert has been issued for dense fog in these regions. Heavy rainfall has been recorded in parts of Tamil Nadu and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, with more expected.

The Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj continues with millions of devotees participating, including a large crowd on Makar Sankranti. To assist the massive influx of pilgrims, the local administration has set up an AI-based lost and found center.
