Vikas Swarup, who served as the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), was on Thursday appointed as the High Commissioner of India to Canada.

New Delhi: Vikas Swarup, who served as the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), was on Thursday appointed as the High Commissioner of India to Canada.
Swarup had joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1986.
He had earlier served at the Indian diplomatic missions in Turkey, the United States, Ethiopia, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Japan.
He is also known for his writings. His works included Q&A, adapted in Hollywood film as “Slumdog Millionaire”, which won the Oscars for Best Film in 2009. The film had also won awards at the Golden Globe and BAFTA.
His other novels are “Six Suspects” and “The Accidental Apprentice”.
In April 2015, he was appointed the spokesperson of the MEA.
