New Delhi: As the Aam Aadmi Party is all set to sweep 117-seat Punjab Assembly polls, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday (March 10) accepted the people’s mandate and congratulated the Arvind Kejriwal-led party.
AAP’s Jagdeep Kamboj has left Badal behind by securing 57439 votes in the Jalalabad Assembly constituency. The SAD chief has won 38769 votes, as per the current trends.
Taking to Twitter, Badal wrote, “We whole-heartedly & with total humility accept the mandate given by Punjabis. I am grateful to lakhs of Punjabis who placed their trust in us & to to SAD-BSP workers for their selfless toil. We will continue to serve them with humility in the role they have assigned to us.”
Further, congratulating AAP and its CM candidate Bhagwant Mann, Badal tweeted, “As president of @Akali_Dal_, I congratulate @AamAadmiParty, @AAPPunjab & their leader @BhagwantMann on their victory in Punjab poll. I offer them my sincerest good wishes for success and I am sure they will live up to the people’s expectations”.

Greeting party workers in Punjab’s Sangrur, AAP CM candidate Mann said, “Bade Badal Sahib has lost, Sukhbir (Badal) has lost from Jalalabad, Capt has lost from Patiala, Sidhu & Majithia are also losing, Channi has lost on both the seats.”
Meanwhile, AAP has won 14 seats and is leading in 78, followed by Congress which has bagged 2 seats and is leading in 16 others. SAD is leading in 3 seats, as per the Election Commission of India.
