Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police recently neutralized Hijbul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmed Bhat in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Tral area.
Bhat alias Abu Zarar had succeeded Wani who was killed on July 8 last year in a security operation in Anantnag and carried a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head and was at the top of the security forces' wanted list.
Bhat's killing in the gunfight in Saimoh village triggered widespread protests in the Valley once again, with one civilian death reported.
His killing also brings notice to one of the most widely shared pictures of a group of 11 young militants, all dressed in camouflage and holding Kalashnikov rifles, that was uploaded on Facebook in July 2015.
It is to be noted that nine of these 11 terrorists have been eliminated by the security forces in all these months. One of them, Saddam Padder is still active and commander of the outfit while another Tariq Pandit has surrendered himself before the state police.
Here's a brief look at the details:
Saddam Padder (1) is alive and has reportedly been named as the successor of Sabzar Bhat after the latter was killed in an encounter with security forces on Saturday. Padder, a 25-year-old, was a contender for Hizbul commander earlier as well, but Zakir Musa beat him to it, according to sources.
Burhan Wani, (2) the former commander of the outfit was killed in a gunbattle with security personnel in July last year. His killing sparked days of deadly violence in the Valley with thousands of people severely been hit by it in the past 10 months.
Adil Khande (3), Neesar Pandit (4), Affaq Bhat (5), Sabzar Bhat (6), Anees (7), Ishfaq Dar (8), Waseem Mallah (9), Wasim Shah (10) have also been killed, one Tariq Pandit (11) has surrendered himself to the police and is still alive.
