London terror attack: Know what happened in Bridge and Borough Market

London: British Prime Minister Theresa May on Sunday announced that the June 8 General Election will go ahead as planned despite another terrorist attack in London as she blamed the "evil ideology of Islamist extremism" for the three terror attacks in the country.

Speaking outside Downing Street after she chaired the emergency COBRA meeting with senior security chiefs, May said said, "Violence can never be allowed to disrupt the democratic process."

At least seven persons were killed during attacks in two closely connected areas of London on Saturday night.

Three suspected attackers were shot dead by the police.

The incidents took place on London Bridge and in nearby Borough Market.

It is the third terror attack to strike the country this year, after a man drove a car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge in March and a bomb attack on an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester two weeks ago.

She said "it is time to say enough is enough" as she condemned the terror attack on "innocent and unarmed civilians"  on London Bridge and Borough Market area of the city, which left seven people dead and 48 injured in London.

American singer Ariana Grande has reacted to the twin terror attacks in London.

The singer, who was preparing for today's charity concert that she had organised to raise funds for those affected by the Manchester Arena attack, tweeted, "Praying for London."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that Canadians "stand united" with London after three assailants stabbed people at random and smashed into pedestrians in a van, killing six.

"Awful news from London tonight. We're monitoring the situation," Trudeau said on Twitter.

During a reception with parliamentary press, Trudeau added: "Canadians stand united in sending our love and support to our friends in London.

What happened in London?

At least six people were killed and several others injured today in two terror attacks at central London landmarks in which police shot dead three suspects.

The attack that took place at London Bridge and Borough Market comes just days ahead of the general election on June 8.

London Bridge 

The first incident was reported at London Bridge when a van swerved off the road into a crowd of pedestrians, BBC reported.

A white van driver came speeding probably about 50 mph veered off the road into the crowds of people who were walking along the pavement, it said.

Borough market

Within minutes, there were reports of a second attack at Borough market on the South Bank of the Thames where three men started stabbing people including a young girl.

 British Prime Minister Theresa May will convene an emergency security Cabinet meet known as Cabinet Office Briefing Room (Cobra) after terror attacks took place at the London Bridge and the Borough Market, where several people were injured.

The top-level security briefing invloves a discussion across departments which is designed to respond to national emergencies.

Trump posted a series of tweets after two consecutive terror attacks that took place across London on Saturday in which a van hit pedestrians on the London Bridge injuring several people and subsequent stabbings at the Borough Market.

This is the third terror attack in the UK since March.

On 22 May, 22 people were killed and 116 injured in a suicide bombing at Manchester Arena.

The attacker, identified as 22-year-old Salman Abedi, detonated a home-made bomb in the arena's foyer as crowds were leaving a performance by US singer Ariana Grande late in the evening.

On 22 March, six people died, including the attacker, and at least 50 people were injured in an attack near the Houses of Parliament.

Attacker Khalid Masood first drove his car at pedestrians on the pavement on Westminster Bridge before crashing into a perimeter fence. Masood, armed with a knife, then left the vehicle and ran towards Parliament, where he was shot dead by police.
