Mumbai recorded 298 mm of rainfall, the highest in a day in August since 1997, according to data from the India Meteorological Department.
The Western Naval Command has made arrangements to provide shelter to Mumbaikars who were left stranded after heavy rains lashed the metropolis.
Mumbai Police says, "Ganapati Visarjanprocession reaching immersion points. Policemen present at such points to ensure that immersion process is smooth."
Bollywood Shaenshah Amitabh Bachchan praises Mumbai Police for the rescue efforts and salutes the true spirit of Mumbaikars.

President Ram Nath Kovind expresses concern over the situation in Mumbai. He assured the Mumbaikars that government is taking all steps to help the affected.
"Thoughts with families, especially children, in Mumbai & western parts of the country hit by heavy downpour," the President tweeted.

As IMD has warned of more rainfall, people in Mumbai and areas around Mumbai are advised to stay back home unless there is an emergency, says Chief Minister's Office.

According to the civic body's disaster management cell, at least 20 incidents of trees fall and one of wall collapse were reported from Mumbai. Fortunatley, there were no casualties.

A Tube boat has been deployed for rescue operations in Mumbai's Dadar which is facing massive water logging.

BMC Dy Municipal Commissioner Sudhir Naik says the civic body has placed six big pumping stations and 30,000 staff are working on the ground to help people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured all help to Maharashtra government.
The PM spoke to CM Devendra Fadnavis to take stock of the situation arising due to incessant rain in Mumbai and surrounding areas.

CM Fadnavis speaks to news agency ANI, says "Request people to follow traffic advisories being issued."
He appealed to the Mumbaikars to tweet to or call the Mumbai Police, for any help.
