Apple may launch a cheaper iPhone with 6.1-inch LCD: Reports

Apple is gearing up to launch three iPhones this year, with one being a cheaper iPhone with 6.1-inch featuring an LCD display — a follow-up of sorts to the iPhone SE, according to media reports.

The 6.1-inch LCD display on the rumored iPhone model will be substantially more advanced than the screens on other recent LCD-equipped iPhones.

According to media reports, which claims that the 6.1-inch LCD display on the rumored third iPhone model will be substantially more advanced than the screens on other recent LCD-equipped iPhones. The reports further claims that Apple will adopt Japan Display’s Full Active LCD technology, which can be paired with 0.5mm bezels — even smaller than those of the iPhone X. The Japan Display described Full Active LCDs as 6-inch screens with 18:9 aspect ratios and 2,160×1,080 pixel resolution. Quite a jump from the iPhone SE display.

The report claims that Apple may try its hands on Japan Display's "Full Active" LCD technology for one of the upcoming iPhones. The LCD display iPhone was earlier rumoured to come with a 6.1-inch screen, however, the new report suggests that the screen size could be around 6-inches.

Out of the three iPhones that Apple has planned for 2018, one will resemble the iPhone X, and, it will be a direct successor to last year's iPhone X. On the other hand, it will be a cheaper device, and will be the one with the Full Active LCDs. This will allow Apple to sell the 6.1-inch iPhone at a much cheaper price point.

Some previous rumours suggested that the upcoming Full Active LCD display iPhone will come with include an aluminum frame instead of stainless steel, single lens camera at the back instead of the usual dual-lens. The device is also expected to not sport 3D touch -- as suggested by renowed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo has predicted that the upcoming 6.1-inch iPhone will be a mid-range device and could be priced between $700 and $800.
