Thousands of passengers continued to remain stranded in Maharashtra's Mumbai and adjoining areas after number of long distance trains got cancelled or rescheduled or diverted following two days of excessive rainfall and waterlogging in the state.

Mumbai: Thousands of passengers continued to remain stranded in Maharashtra's Mumbai and adjoining areas after number of long distance trains got cancelled or rescheduled or diverted following two days of excessive rainfall and waterlogging in the state.
At least 12 trains were cancelled, six were short terminated, two were partially cancelled while one each was diverted and rescheduled at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. The Central Railways confirmed that at least 73 long-distance trains were cancelled or partially cancelled due to excessive rains in the state.
Meanwhile, the Gangapur Dam in Nashik district witnessed a rise in the water level due to incessent downpour in Maharashtra. However, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) succcessfully rescued 115 people stranded in the flood-hit areas in Pune's Baner following heavy showers.
The weather bullitin of the India Meteorological Department (MeT) forcast that Maharashtra would continue to witness incessent rainfall till August 8, with "heavy to extremely heavy rain" predicted in Pune, parts of Vidarbha and Konkan.
