New Delhi: Air travel in the country is all set to get costlier by up to 15 per cent with a rise in prices of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) in the last two months.
Prices of ATF were hiked by six per cent on Sunday due to weaking rupee against dollar. It now costs Rs 53,045 per kilolitre - a rise of Rs 3,025 - and is the third montly hike.
Airline officials feel that under such circumstances, an increase in ticket prices are inevitable as the operational cost has gone up.
In recent months, relatively low international crude prices kept air ticket prices under check which in turn led to a spurt in domestic air traffic. The looming hike though is expecetd to affect both passengers and airlines as the ongoing festive rush usually drives up traffic around this time of the year.
