Andhra power employees relieved by Tel govt to start hunger strike

Over 1000 power sector employees originally belonging to Andhra Pradesh who were relieved by the Telangana Government after bifurcation of the state will sit on a relay hunger strike here next week to get their jobs back.

Vijayawada: Over 1000 power sector employees originally belonging to Andhra Pradesh who were relieved by the Telangana Government after bifurcation of the state will sit on a relay hunger strike here next week to get their jobs back.

A total of 1253 employees, who had worked in their various capacities in state-run discoms before division of the state, were relieved by Telangana government as they belonged to Andhra Pradesh.

The employees are jobless since June and AP government has so far not acted upon their request to absorb them in the state cadre.

"We want justice from Andhra government. The employees will begin a relay hunger strike from September 15 under the aegis of Joint Action Committee," said their leaders K Babu Rao, P Janardhana Reddy and N Giridhar in a join press conference.

Both the governments are not even willing to settle retirement dues of some of the employees who have reached superannuation, they alleged.
