Bihar CM Nitish Kumar seeks women groups' help for quality education

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday asked women self-help groups to report to the government if teachers in schools are punctual and students attending classes.

"On paper, 99 percent of students are enrolled in schools, but it's a known fact that not more than 50-60 percent of them come to school regularly," Kumar said, addressing a function here.

"You have to see why students are not coming to schools regularly. Besides, you have to keep a watch over teachers... if they are punctual," he said exhorting the women self-help groups members to take the responsibility.

"You have to also inspect whether cleanliness is maintained in schools and mid-day meal provided as per the rules," the Chief Minister said.
Kumar said a special cell would be set up in the Education department to look into any complaints in this regard.

"There would be monthly monitoring at the Chief Secretary's level. I myself will keep a close watch to ensure that quality is maintained in school education," he said.

The Chief Minister also credited women self-help groups with the effective implementation of prohibition in the state.
