AAP to elect NE members at tomorrow's Council meet

The founding members who were expelled in April this year were to be replaced by new members.

New Delhi: The Aam Adami Party (AAP) will hold its National Council meeting tomorrow where it is expected to elect its fresh members of the National Executive, the second highest decision-making body of the party.

According to the party's Constitution, the National Executive have to be reconstituted every three years. The tenure of the present body of the National Executive ends this month. The AAP was formed in November 26, 2012.

The founding members - Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav, Ajit Jha and Anand Kumar - who were expelled in April this year were to be replaced by new members.

Similarly, Christina Fami, AAP's National Executive member from Tamil Nadu, Mayanak Gandhi and Subhash Ware, also tendered their resignations from the body.

The National Council is the body of founding members of the party, while National Executive is the second highest decision-making body of the party. The Council ratifies all the decisions taken by the party.

Founding member and dissident AAP leader Shanti Bhushan, father of the expelled rebel leader Prashant Bhushan, alleged that more than 40 National Council members have been served show-cause notices and some 90 people have not been informed about the meeting.

"The meeting being held tomorrow is patently illegal and full of mala fide intentions. We are members of National Council of AAP and also the founding members of the party. We have been observing the fall in morals and values of the party for a long time and have proofs of wrong-doing and illegal activities being executed by the party," Bhushan said.

Bhushan also said that he will take all recourses, political or legal, to stop the "disgusting" treatment towards the partymen and might also approach the Election Commission in this regard.
