Auto-rickshaw driver shot at

Umesh sustained a bullet injury on his shoulder and now is stated to be out of danger.

New Delhi: A 34-year-old autorickshaw driver was injured after two of his passengers allegedly shot at him following a dispute over payment of fare in southwest Delhi's Chhawla area, police said Thursday.

Umesh sustained a bullet injury on his shoulder and now is stated to be out of danger, they said.

He had been hired by two men from Uttam Nagar to go to Chhawla last night. When the passengers reached their destination, they refused to pay him a fare of around Rs 150 to which he protested, said a police officer.

When the duo tried to leave without paying the fare to Umesh, he followed them. An argument broke out and scuffle broke out between them during which one of the accused whipped out a pistol and shot him on the shoulder, said the officer.

Umesh somehow drove himself to a hospital where he was treated for bullet injury. Police also reached there.

A case has been registered and CCTV footage is being examined to nab the culprits, the officer added.
