New Delhi: The Supreme Court is expected to hear on Sunday morning the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government’s plea regarding the state’s water crisis triggered by the ongoing Jats’ agitation for reservation in jobs and educational institutions.

The Delhi government had on Saturday moved the Supreme Court over the sudden water crisis in the capital due to the Jat agitation in Haryana.

"Delhi government’s petition accepted. Likely to be heard on Sunday morning," Delhi's Water Minister Kapil Mishra had tweeted last night.

"Extraordinary situation. First time seven plants closed down. No piped water supply possible after Sunday morning in 60 percent city including NDMC” he tweeted.
.
"People of Delhi are requested to keep calm, save water and help the needy first," he had tweeted.

Earlier on Saturday, in the wake of the Munak Canal - which supplies water to south Delhi - being closed after vandalisation by Jat protesters, the Delhi government had said water supply in the capital may be hit, but that it has taken certain measures to restore it.

"An emergency meeting of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) was called. The gate of Munak canal is closed at this moment. The demonstrators vandalised the control buttons of the canal as per the messages we have received," Mishra, who is also the DJB chairman, told reporters.

Mishra said the supply of essential commodities in Delhi could also be affected in the next few days.
