New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal chaired an emergency meet at his residence on Monday to take stock of the water supply situation in the national capital which has been hit due to the ongoing protests by Haryana Jats over demand of reservation in government jobs and educational institutes.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Water Minister Kapil Mishra, NDMC Secretary and Delhi Jal Board CEO were present in the meeting.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia announced today that Delhi government has ordered all schools in the city to remain shut due to the water crisis.

Confirming the news, Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra said, "We are left with no water now. The water supply today morning was the last one. We have moved Supreme Court on water crisis. Petition will be heard on Sunday most probably."

Earlier on Saturday, in the wake of the Munak Canal - which supplies water to south Delhi - being closed after vandalisation by Jat protesters, the Delhi government had said water supply in the capital may be hit, but that it has taken certain measures to restore it.

"An emergency meeting of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) was called. The gate of Munak canal is closed at this moment. The demonstrators vandalised the control buttons of the canal as per the messages we have received," Mishra, who is also the DJB chairman, told reporters.

Mishra said the supply of essential commodities in Delhi could also be affected in the next few days.
