New Delhi: As Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Najeeb Ahmed continues to remain missing, reports on Tuesday said the M Phil student was taking anti-depressant medicines.

The reports say that Ahmed was taking medicines for insomnia and obsessive compulsive disorder.

Najeeb Ahmed went missing on the intervening night of October 14-15 after being allegedly beaten by a 20-strong mob of students who had gone campaigning to his door for hostel elections.

Joint Commissioner of Police Deependra Pathak assured that police is trying hard to trace Ahmad.

While giving developments about the case, Pathak said Delhi Police has formed eight teams to trace the missing JNU student.

Meanwhile, the missing student's case has snowballed into a political controversy with Aam Aadmi Party hitting out at the Modi government and Delhi Poloce for alleged inaction.

JNU students staged another protest on Monday at Delhi Police headquarters here, condemning the manner in which police officers subdued the missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed's mother and sister.

Ahmed's mother Fatima Nafees and his sister Sadaf Musharraf also took part in the protest. Musharraf was seen with an injured and bandaged hand, which she attributed to the police "roughness" on Sunday.

President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday promised action after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged him to direct the Modi government to step up efforts to trace the JNU student missing for over three weeks.
