2015 on track to become the hottest year ever recorded!

New York: With global temperatures increasing, it seems exceedingly likely that 2015 will be the hottest year in historical record!

Scientists say that 2015 will almost certainly be the Earth's warmest year since the 600s‒that's before the Crusades, the fall of the Mayan Civilization and the Viking invasions of Europe.

According to a report released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, September 2015 was the hottest September, by a large margin, since records first began in 1880. August 2015 was the hottest August. July 2015 was the hottest July. In fact, so far this year, only January and April haven't broken records.

Here are the two main reasons for this:

  1. The immediate cause of the record-breaking warmth is a strong El Niño weather pattern. El Niño is a climate cycle in the Pacific Ocean with a global impact on weather patterns.  It causes some of the heat that was stored in deeper layers of the ocean to rise to the surface, bumping up global temperatures.
  2. The other reason, needless to say is man-made global warming. As the world burns more and more fossil fuels, it adds more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere thus more heat is trapped on Earth's surface.
