A day before Eid-ul-Zuha, the National Green Tribunal Thursday asked the Delhi government to ensure that no blood is allowed to directly seep into the Yamuna river due to slaughtering of cattle.

New Delhi: A day before Eid-ul-Zuha, the National Green Tribunal Thursday asked the Delhi government to ensure that no blood is allowed to directly seep into the Yamuna river due to slaughtering of cattle.

A bench headed by Justice U D Salvi, which took the matter on mentioning, issued notice to the Delhi government and Delhi Pollution Control Committee on the plea of a religious outfit, seeking their replies by October 8.

"The applicants make a grievance about pollution of river Yamuna as a result of spilling of blood of the slaughtered animals... Let the Delhi Pollution Control Committee be impleaded and notice be issued to the respondents.

"In the meanwhile, the respondent shall ensure that no blood of slaughtered animals is allowed to flow directly into the river Yamuna," the bench said.

The directions came while hearing a plea of the religious grouping, Ojasvi party, which has approached the green panel against the pollution caused in the Yamuna river due to slaughtering of the cattle.
