Haryana celebrates Gita Jayanti; festival to get bigger next year

Chandigarh: The Haryana government is celebrating the Gita Jayanti festival 2015 in all 21 districts of the state.

Gita Jayanti Samaroh is dedicated to the birth of Srimad Bhagavad Gita, the holy book of Hindus.

The festival is very sacred to Hindus and is celebrated with immense religious fervour and dedication.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has, meanwhile, announced that the Kurukshetra Mahotsav-Gita Jayanti Samaroh would be celebrated in a bigger scale next year.

The Chief Minister said 'Gita' is the essence of life and it gives message of public service without any self interest.

Suring his visit to Punjab, Khattar said that political leaders should also work selflessly without expecting anything in return and should take inspiration from lessons of the Gita.

He said that values are important in education as merely getting a degree would not be enough. In this direction, the Haryana government has incorporated shalokas of the Gita in school syllabus, he said.

A sum of Rs 10 lakh was provided to each district by the Information, Public Relations and Culture Affairs department for setting up of exhibition, tentage, craft work, boarding and lodging of artist, refreshment and other related miscellaneous expenses.
