Chandigarh: The Haryana government on Saturday said the police will register a case against the accused involved in the alleged mass gang-rapes in the state's Murthal area after recording the statements of the witnesses.
A probe team, which has been constituted to investigate the crime, will visit Punjab soon to record the statement of one of the witnesses, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said.
“After recording the witnesses' account, a case will be registered,” ANI quoted the minister as saying.
The alleged gang-rapes happened during the recent violent Jat agitation to demand quota in government jobs for the community members in the state.
Dozens of people had died and hundreds of others injured during the violent protests which rocked several districts of the state and lasted for several days.
The army was also called in to quell the unrest after the state police failed to rein in the widespread violence.
The Centre eventually bowed down to the pressure and accepted their demands.
