New Delhi: Worship of shivalinga is considered the prime worship for the devotees of Lord Shiva. Worship of all other forms is considered secondary. The significance of the shivalinga is that it is the resplendent light (flame) form of the Supreme - solidified to make the worship of it easier. It represents the real nature of God - formless essentially and taking various forms as it wills.

The 12 Jyotirlingas in India that one wishes to worship in his/her lifetime:

Somnath Jyotirlinga: It is believed that praying at the Somnath Temple in Gujarat helps people getting rid of illness.

Mallikarjun Jyotirlinga: People's desire of wealth and prosperity are fulfilled in this auspicious temple situated in Andhra Pradesh on the top of a mountain on river Krishna.

Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga: The famous temple is in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district and people pray here for getting rid of fear of death.

Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga: It is located in Tamil Nadu and is one of the four holy sites that a Hindu wishes to visit during his lifetime. It is believed that Lord Shiva fulfills desire of winning.

Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga: Praying here helps lost family members re-unite. It is situated in Aurangabad.
