2 Indian youths who fled home to join IS deported from Turkey

Security officials in Turkey had picked them up a forthnight ago for “suspicious movements” and after which they were deported to India.

New Delhi: As the world mourns the victims of the deadly Paris attacks, carried out by a secret cell of the notorious Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, Turkey has deported two Indian youths who had fled from their homes to join the IS.

Both the youths, who are in their 20s and hail from Tamil Nadu, had tried to get in touch with the Islamic State militants a fortnight ago from Turkey.

They are currently being interrogated by the Indian intelligence agencies.

According to a TOI report on Saturday, one of the boys is a BCom graduate while the other is school dropout. Both had boarded a flight to Dubai from Bengaluru in August and then they went to Turkey from where they were hoping to contact the IS.

Security officials in Turkey had picked them up a forthnight ago for “suspicious movements” and after which they were deported to India.

They have revealed to the Indian security officials that they were inspired to join the IS and had searched for information about the group on the internet.

“The two used to discuss joblessness in India. The Chennai guy told him about prospects in Syria, where the IS is ruling the roost. He wanted to join IS and take the other man along,” the TOI report quoted a source as saying.
