Patna: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday verbally attacked Nitish Kumar government for withdrawing a case against RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his two sons.
BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi today questioned the Bihar government if the step taken was not virtually same as defaming Patna High Court, that is hearing the case.
The statement released by Sushil Modi reads, "Did the state government take permission from Patna High Court which took suo motu cognisance of the issue and is hearing a case before withdrawing the case in the lower court?"
"Will the state government likewise take back thousands of such cases involving agitation by employee unions and citizens who staged protest and jammed road against the state government?" he asked. He also questioned if Nitish Kumar government would set free Mohammad Shahbuddin, an accused in a kidnapping case, under pressure from Lalu and his family.
Sushil Modi also alleged that the Bihar government is working on behalf of Lalu Yadav and thus withdrew the case against him and his sons.
RJD in July 2015 had launched a day-long bandh bringing life in Bihar to a standstill. Trains were halted and several shops and educational institutions were forced to shut their operations by lathi-wielding mobs. Janata Dal United registered a case against Lalu Prasad Yadav and his two sons – Tejaswi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav besides state party chief Ramchandra Purve for vandalism and stopping government officials from discharging duty during the bandh.
