New Delhi: If Supreme Court has its way, the commuters in Delhi Metro will soon be able to book their seats in advance.

The Apex court on Tuesday asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to look into the possibility where passengers can book seats in metro trains.

SC has directed the DMRC to look into the possibility of a premium service where a seat can be assured by paying 5 times the normal fare. The SC has also directed the Centre to set up 104 new CNG pumps in 10 districts of Delhi-NCR to ensure adequate CNG supply for the vehicles.

The court has set up a deadline of March 31.

The court on Tuesday also banned entry of heavy commercial vehicles from four additional entry points NH 2, 10, 58 and state highway 57 into Delhi.

The apex court however allowed entry of heavy commercial vehicles which are Delhi bound on payment of pollution cess.

SC has also asked the Delhi government not to deny no objection certificate (NOC) to ten-year-old diesel vehicles and 16-year-old petrol vehicles for being sold outside NCR.

The court has also asked the the Centre to replace all government diesel vehicles which are older than 5 years.

It may be recalled that recently, while hiking the environment compensatory charges on commercial vehicles by 100 percent, the SC had clarified that no vehicle registered in 2005 or prior years shall be allowed to enter Delhi even after payment of the enhanced green cess.

The cess has now been doubled — Rs 700 to Rs 1,400 for light commercial vehicles and from Rs 1,300 to Rs 2,600 for heavy commercial vehicles.
