New Delhi: In the wake of the recent Pathankot airbase attack, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday announced that they will deploy at least 2,000 additional security personnel along Punjab and Jammu borders.

An official of BSF said that it has been decided to strengthen the manpower to plug possible gaps along Punjab and Jammu borders. About two battalions (about 2,000 troops) are estimated to be required for the task in the primary stages.

BSF officials submitted a report to the Centre two days back after analysing the possible route taken by the terrorists of the Pathankot IAF airbase. The report stated that it found no breach in the fence but mentioned that there were some gapping holes along the International Border (IB) and malfunctioning of some of the electronic surveillance equipment it uses.

Senior BSF officials have been camping along the IB, including at Bamiyal, a border village in Pathankot, which is believed to have been used by the terrorists to infiltrate into the country from across the border and attack the Pathankot airbase.
