PM Modi sends high-level central team to landslide-affected areas in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi instructed a two-member central team on Tuesday to go to Arunachal Pradesh for an on-the-spot-assessment of damage in the wake of the recent landslide in Tawang District.

Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi instructed a two-member central team on Tuesday to go to Arunachal Pradesh for an on-the-spot-assessment of damage in the wake of the recent landslide in Tawang District.

The team will comprise of a senior advisor in the Niti Aayog and a joint secretary from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Prime Minister has directed the team to make an assessment of the nature of relief and compensation package, after holding discussions with the State and District officials and to submit a report, as per PIB

On April 22, at least 16 persons were killed when a massive landslide triggered by incessant rains hit a labour camp in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The incident had occurred at 3 AM when 19 labourers engaged in construction works were inside the camp at Phamla village, 6 km away from Tawang town.

The next at least two persons were killed and several dwellings damaged in fresh landslides triggered by rains in Tawang district.

Toll was reported to have risen to 19.

The fresh landslips had occurred at Thongleng Village, 20 km from Tawang town in between Tawang- Lumla road.
