The 63-year-old actor in a slew of tweets had said the names of the prominent places should be changed after those who worked for the welfare of the country.

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor has thanked his supporters for their "unconditional love and solidarity", after his tweets targeting the Congress over the practice of naming all the major assets of the country after the Nehru-Gandhi family during its rule, triggered a controversy.

The 63-year-old actor in a slew of tweets had said the names of the prominent places should be changed after those who worked for the welfare of the country.

Actor Anupam Kher and others had come out in support of Kapoor's views, and now Kapoor has tweeted his thanks to all his supporters.

"Thank you all for your unprecedented unconditional support, love and solidarity for what I said. Mera Bharat Mahaan!" Kapoor wrote on Twitter.

"Thank you, thank you world over! Your reaction coming is unprecedented. I meant it from my heart and you know it. And I know you know it!" he posted.

Congress workers had staged a protest outside Kapoor's house in suburban Bandra in Mumbai and also pelted stones and shouted slogans against the actor to protest his slew of tweets against the Nehru-Gandhi family.

"We must name important assets of the country who have contributed to society. Har cheez Gandhi ke naam? I don't agree. Sochna log!" Kapoor had earlier tweeted.
