The student in us must remain alive: PM Narendra Modi

Varanasi: Speaking at the centenary year convocation of Banaras Hindu University, Monday, PM Modi said, “I have attended many such ceremonies in the past, but to come here on this special occasion is definitely special.”

“Mahamana ji (Madan Mohan Malviya) and Mahatma Gandhi ji both wanted to teach youth how to contribute to the country,” he said, adding that people who have studied at BHU have contributed to society through various ways, as doctors, teachers and civil servants.

Stressing on the need to keep the process of learning alive within students, he said, “In my view dikshant (convocation) is the beginning of education, not the end of it.”

“There are lot of challenges in the front of the world today. Can India play a role in providing answers to them?,” PM Modi said.

Goading students to focus on innovation, he said, “Jigyasa (inquisitiveness) is important. If there is no 'Jigyasa', there is stagnation,” he said.
