Ties between UK, India showcased through photographs

New Delhi: A photo exhibition titled 'Origins' showcasing the works of emerging and established photographers of India and the UK begins on Friday at the British Council gallery here.

"Origins", a photographic tale of relations between India and the UK, launched under the initiative of 'Photo UK-INDIA' features work of 31 artists - 21 from UK and 10 from India. A publication of 6 authors has also been launched.

The thematic issue tries for the refreshed unravelling of the meaning of "Origins" by narrative photo submissions on family formations, histories, travel and many others.

"The event presents the thought process of today's generation vis-a-vis photos, of what they think and perceive about the relations between the UK and India," Director, British Council, India Rob Lynes said at the inauguration here late last evening.

He further said that the 'UK-India' issue seeks not to present photography not only in visual attempts but also in interdisciplinary ways.

The initiative taken up by the British Council along with Alkazi Foundation made an open call for submission of entries on July 1 and July 25 was the last date for the entries.

"Though it was an open call for submission, a lot of research has gone into all of this what you see. Actually what you see here for display is work in progress," curator Rahaab Allana said.

Allana urged visitors to the exhibition to look at the photographs and have their own interpretation.

"Open your eyes and literally wade through. Because the story of every photograph begins with you," he added. The exhibition is open for all is set to conclude on January 3, 2016.
