MP: 10 'devotees' held for vandalising police outpost, injuring persons

After violence, the accused fled from the spot in the bus last night, but they were today arrested at Khargone.

Indore: Ten devotees from Maharashtra on way to a temple in MP were today arrested for allegedly vandalising a police outpost and injuring three persons, including a policeman, near here, police said.

"A bus carrying devotees from Aurangabad, on way to Shiva temple at Omkareshwar in MP's Khargone district from Ujjain district, hit a truck on Indore-Khandwa road last evening," Simrol Police Station Inspector S D Mule said.

After the accident, the drivers of both the vehicles quarrelled and reached Choral police outpost where Sub- Inspector (SI) Sitaram Rawat enquired from the bus driver about papers of the four-wheeler, he said.

This infuriated the devotees who then allegedly vandalised the outpost and attacked the SI with lathis and injured him, Mule said.

The angry devotees also thrashed a constable and one other person who had come to the outpost to get a complaint registered, he said.

After violence, the accused fled from the spot in the bus last night, but they were today arrested at Khargone, Mule said.

The accused have been booked under relevant sections, he said, adding that further investigation is on.
