Google doodle celebrates 'Indian Picasso' MF Husain's 100th birthday

Today, Google pays tribute to the legendary painter Maqbool Fida Husain on his 100th birthday. The painter also known as ''The Picasso of India'' passed away on June 9th, 2011, at the age of 95.

New Delhi: Today, Google pays tribute to the legendary painter Maqbool Fida Husain on his 100th birthday. The painter also known as ''The Picasso of India'' passed away on June 9th, 2011, at the age of 95.

Much like his paintings, Google has painted him in the doodle in a unique manner. While geometrical figures are being used for the doodle; circles are used to represent the letters G O O E leaving the illustration of MF Husain and a paint brush in his hand to represent the second G and L; to complete the word GOOGLE.

Click on the doodle and you will be taken to the search page with a list of websites which will provide you information about MF Husain, his life, his achievements, his controversies. 

Known for his modernist and cubist paintings, the renowned painter was acknowledged for his unmatchable contribution in the field of art and culture and had been awarded honours including Padma Shree, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan. 

He was also a founding member of The Progressive Artists Group of Bombay (PAG) and also proved his talent as as a print-maker, photographer and filmmaker.

Husain later courted controversy over his nude portraits of Hindu gods and relocated to Dubai and London in self-exile after being threatened by right-wing Hindutva fundamentalists.
